The 4th International Conference on Earth Resources and Geo-Environment Technology (EraGET2025)
On December 11th and 12th, Sugawa (B4) and Mashita (M2) attended the 4th International Conference on Earth Resources and Geo-Environment Technology (EraGET2025) held in Cambodia.
Some of you might be thinking, “Is it really okay for these two to be traveling right before their thesis deadlines!?” Well, if you don’t see us in the photos from the Farewell Party in March… please just assume “that’s what happened.”
Our journey (Tokyo -> Guangzhou -> Phnom Penh) got off to a rocky start with a 4-hour delay on our very first flight. Fortunately, we had a long layover, so it didn’t affect our overall schedule, but our dreams of a “Guangzhou food crawl” were sadly crushed.

A 4-hour departure delay! The plane actually didn’t start moving until even later than the time shown on the screen.

Besides water, this meat bun was the only thing I ate in China. It was delicious.
Pulling ourselves together, we enjoyed some sightseeing in Phnom Penh. Although we only had half a day, we fully explored the Royal Palace, Wat Phnom, and the Night Market.

The Royal Palace. It was absolutely spectacular.

Since we’d be having plenty of Khmer food later, we chose a recommended Georgian restaurant for our first night. Instead of Khmer food, we had Shkmeruli!
The next day, EraGET kicked off. Participants gathered from all over the world, with a focus on Southeast Asia. It was a student-centered conference (especially undergraduates) for both staff and presenters. Since we were all around the same age, we became friends very quickly. Sugawa gave his first-ever oral presentation in English (as a B4 student!), and Mashita took on his first English poster presentation.

It was a great honor for Mashita to receive the Best Poster Award.
On the afternoon of the second day, we took a bus from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. The following day, we visited Kulen National Park to see the waterfalls and temples, and finally visited the World Heritage site, Angkor Wat. It was a precious experience to feel the magnificent nature and grand architecture with our own senses. Our new friends from the conference took lots of wonderful photos for us!

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who supported this visit. Thank you very much.
