We went to Otaki Village, Nagano Prefecture, to conduct field survey.
In Otaki Village, a large-scale slope failure and debris flow known as the ‘Ontake Kuzure (御嶽崩れ)’ occurred during the 1986 Naganoken-seibu Earthquake.
The volume of collapsed sediment is around 34 million cubic meters!
The weather was clear, and thanks to the guidance of Takewaki-san, an Ontake Volcano Meister, we were able to observe the collapsed area.
Some members got very close to the collapse site.
We were simply overwhelmed by its tremendous scale.
